Hello! 馃憢 Today we are starting a new unit called Around the English-speaking world so, to get acquaintanced with the huge diversity among native English speakers, we will talk about accents.
馃摉 An accent is a distinctive way of pronouncing a language. In English, we often think of a division between American and British English, but this is a bit too simple! Not only native speakers of English have accents, people who learn it as a second language (like you) do too! And that's okay, it is perfectly normal that your native language impacts the way you speak in English!
馃搶 In order to address this topic, we will take a look at this video where Louis Tomlinson tells us about his tattoos. Louis is from Doncaster (South Yorkshire), in the North of England, so he has quite an accent! Don't worry if you don't understand all of it, it is a bit tricky!
馃帶 Have you watched it already? Brilliant! Now it is your turn to do a bit of work. Listen again from minute 0:57 to 3:06 and pay attention to the following sentences. Is there anything that sounds odd to you? Think about it and we will discuss it in class together!
- No reasoning behind it - wanted something big for my arm and that’s why I got it.
- Really weird, like a heart and he had like headphones with like - horrible, horrible, horrible decision.
- I mean, this is probably my worst tattoo, even though it’s pretty small. It’s not great quality amongst all my tattoos but this is pretty horrific.
- I am not going to lie, I can’t help but be a bit of a show off - that were one of them moments.
Have a lovely day,
Lara 馃榿
